JK Rowling “From the Wizarding Archives” in audio format at Audible

JK Rowling’s articles delving into the intricacies of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World – a collection of 80 entries – have been adapted into audio format for the first time and are due to be released on Audible later this month.

From the Wizarding Archives is based on the 80 articles Rowling wrote for the original (now defunct) Pottermore website. The audio series is set to be released exclusively on Amazon Audible on Thursday, August 29.

In addition, Audible has signed a deal with Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing to co-produce a new audiobook series for the original seven Harry Potter novels. The new audiobooks, featuring a voice cast of more than 100 actors, are scheduled to premiere exclusively on Audible in late 2025.

Rowling herself did not lend her voice to “From the Wizarding Archive.” The audio series is narrated by four actors – Evanna Lynch, Hugh Quarshie, Finlay Robertson and Lara Sawalha – and includes an exclusive foreword by Lynch.

“If you’ve ever wondered why Squibs are never offered a place at Hogwarts, what happened when Vernon Dursley first met James Potter, or how Dumbledore and McGonagall formed their lifelong friendship, ‘From the Wizarding Archive’ should be at the top of your wish list,” Audible said in announcing the series.

Other questions that From the Wizarding Archive promises to answer include whether Professor Umbridge “has always been this awful” and why wizards don’t communicate by phone. According to Audible, the series will also “provide personal details that give us an insight into JK Rowling’s writing process” – from her least favorite school subject and its influence on Professor Snape’s career to the personal significance of King’s Cross station and why the Hogwarts Express always departs from there.

The articles in From the Wizarding Archives were originally written by Rowling for the website pottermore.com; they can still be read for free in English on wizardingworld.com. Of the 80 articles, 35 were originally published in three Pottermore Presents eBooks.

Rowling’s final book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007 – but all these years later, the franchise has retained a strong following. Among other things, Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a new TV series for Max based on the books, initially scheduled for release in 2026. At the same time, Rowling has alienated many Harry Potter fans in recent years with comments that have been criticized as transphobic.
