It’s the 20th anniversary of “Futures.” To honor the occasion, Jimmy Eat World announced plans to perform the classic follow-up to “Bleed American” in full at the local rockers’ only hometown show in 2024: Oct. 17 at Van Buren in downtown Phoenix.

“Producing ‘Futures’ was one of the most difficult but rewarding accomplishments of our time as a band,” Jimmy Eat World said in a press release. “We are honored that many of you have found something in these songs that you have connected with over the years. As a token of our appreciation, we want to play this album from start to finish for our hometown fans at The Van Buren.”

This one-off performance of “Futures” marks the first time Jimmy Eat World has performed at this venue.

Celebrate “Clarity,” “Futures,” and “Surviving” with LPs from Phoenix Sessions

This is an anniversary year for Jimmy Eat World, who previously marked the 25th anniversary of Clarity with the release of Clarity: Phoenix Sessions (Chapter III) in February, a limited edition double album on sun-kissed colored vinyl.

In addition to the 20th anniversary of “Futures,” their gold-certified fifth album, they are celebrating the fifth anniversary of “Surviving,” their tenth album, with two new releases: “Futures: Phoenix Sessions (Chapter V)” and “Surviving: Phoenix Sessions (Chapter X),” available for the first time on vinyl.

All three albums were recorded live in early 2021 as part of the Phoenix Sessions, a partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents as part of a global streaming performance series filmed at the Icehouse in Phoenix.

The live recordings, produced by Jimmy Eat World himself, were mixed by singer and guitarist Jim Adkins.

How to order Phoenix Sessions of “Futures”, “Clarity” and “Surviving”

“Futures: Phoenix Sessions” is a double album on hand-cast Blizzard-colored vinyl. The gatefold sleeve features exclusive photos by Steve Thrasher, notes from the band, and an exclusive 20th anniversary etching on side D.

“Surviving: Phoenix Sessions” is pressed on fade to black colored vinyl and includes an insert with behind-the-scenes photos by Steve Thrasher.

Both releases will be available this fall through Jimmy Eat World’s Exotic Location Recordings label.

Fans can pre-order copies of the Phoenix Sessions versions of “Futures” and “Surviving” through the Jimmy Eat World webstore, where copies of “Clarity: Phoenix Sessions” are also available.

Why the production of “Futures” was a “super challenge”

“Futures” was released three years after their breakthrough with the platinum-selling album “Bleed American”, which produced one of the most infectious rock hits of the century: “The Middle”.

In a press release, Jimmy Eat World called “Futures” both “our darkest album” and “the hardest for us to make,” but also “the first record that we didn’t feel like we were making anonymously.”

Although it was “a super challenging record,” the band added, “we pulled through and ended up releasing an album that we’re still super proud of to this day. To be able to reissue it so many years later as a live recording for the Phoenix Sessions was an incredible experience and we hope you enjoy reliving it as much as we did.”
