Jets-Panthers Preseason Game Preview Story

Jets-Panthers Preseason Game Preview Story

Change in the NFL is fast and ongoing, as Saturday’s preseason game between the Jets and Panthers illustrates.

38 Jets (42% of the 90-man roster) who played in these teams’ meeting last year are no longer on the roster. After Thursday’s joint practice, it is still unclear how many, if any, regular players HC Robert Saleh will leave on the bench. He rested 28 players in the team’s season-opening game against the Commanders last Saturday.

“Back in the day, when there were three or four preseason games, you played one quarter, then you played a second quarter and then you got your guys out for the third quarter,” Saleh said. “That’s not the case anymore. Now it’s about really looking at ourselves in the mirror as a coaching staff and trying to check boxes to say, ‘OK, I let my guys play for a series,’ or does it actually help us play our best in Week 1?

“We’re going through that evaluation process right now. Next week we have another intramural scrimmage against the Giants. We’re doing a lot of reps, a lot of quality reps. When we look at the overall performance of training camp, we’ll decide whether or not our guys need that extra work.”
