Jets-Giants Preseason Game Preview Story

Jets-Giants Preseason Game Preview Story

After the Jets wrapped up training camp this week, they will wrap up their preseason program on Saturday night against the Giants at MetLife Stadium. Head coach Robert Saleh benched 28 and 32 players in the wins over Washington and Carolina, respectively, and will finish preseason one last time with Aaron Rodgers and his regulars in attendance.

“It’s going to continue like the first two games,” Saleh said, adding, “I think we’ve done a lot of good work over the course of three weeks with three quality opponents. Last year we didn’t have a scrimmage against the Giants. This year we’ve had three different scrimmages and I think the work we’ve done has been very productive.”

Not only do the Jets have a 40-year-old star quarterback in Rodgers who is performing excellently in practice, but Saleh has just put his team through a tough training camp in his fourth year at the helm.

I think it’s different because our first year we were a very young team, a young staff,” Saleh said. “This is the fourth year where we’re really speaking the same language across the board. We needed those reps. If you remember that year, that was high volume, and we were still playing. We were doing scrimmages against other teams and still going out during the game because we needed it. And it’s not that we don’t need it, it’s just that this is a much more experienced group. We have four years of experience playing the game side by side, so now it’s just an allocation because it’s all about reps and how many reps you need to get ready to play.”

Speaking of decisions, the Jets have a deadline for their 53-man roster on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Even though the Jets-Giants duel doesn’t factor into the standings, it could have a significant impact on several players competing for a position or job elsewhere. Here are 5 reasons to keep an eye on it:
