Janai Kai is proud to be a champion for MLW.

Kai shocked fans around the world at MLW Slaughterhouse in October 2023 when she made her debut for the company by defeating Delmi Exo for the MLW Women’s World Featherweight Championship. As of the time of publication, Kai is still champion, proving that the promotion considers her a major star.

In a new interview with Fightful, Kai talked about how he won the title despite not yet being signed to the company.

“I was really stunned when they told me. They said, ‘Hey, do you want to make your debut? We’re going to make sure you win or beat the championship.’ I was in Japan at the time when they approached me about it, and when I’m in Japan, I just go with the
Flow to see where that would actually take me. I was like, “Okay, let’s see. Let’s see what happens.” When I get home, I’m going to go to MLW, see what’s good and stuff. For me, it feels good just to know that people see me as someone at that champion level because I haven’t really seen myself that way for the last two years. I just went out and traveled around, did what I could and wondered how people see me. For them to have that trust and see me that way
By the way, I really appreciate that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Kai talked about recently signing a contract with MLW. For more on those comments, click here.
