According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Israel has directly bombed more than 50 percent of schools housing displaced Palestinians since the start of the regime’s 10-month genocidal war against the besieged territory.

UNICEF said in a statement released on Saturday that Israel’s attacks on schools used as emergency shelters in the Gaza Strip had serious consequences for children and families.

The UN body expressed urgent concerns about the security of schools and shelters in the Gaza Strip.

UNICEF condemned the recent “horrific” Israeli attack on a school in eastern Gaza that housed displaced people. The attack killed over 100 civilians. UNICEF pointed out that the attack targeted a place where children and families felt safe.

“Horrifying reports of another attack this morning on a school in Gaza that houses displaced people. Children were reportedly killed or injured in what they thought was a safe place,” said a statement on X.

The organization stressed the importance of protecting schools and shelters, adding: “Schools and shelters must not be attacked. Children must be safe.”

The Gaza government media office said more than 100 citizens were killed and dozens injured on Saturday morning after Israeli occupation forces bombed the Al-Tabi’in school in the al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City.

With the support of the United States and its Western allies, the Israeli regime launched a full-scale invasion of the Gaza Strip after being surprised by the Hamas-led Operation Storming Al-Aqsa in the occupied territories in October last year.

So far, the regime has killed at least 39,897 Gaza residents during the military campaign. Another 92,152 Palestinians have been injured.
