BROOKLYN, NY (PIX11)— Has Greenpoint’s celebrated metal bar Saint Vitus closed its doors for good?

Since its inception in 2011, Saint Vitus has been a cornerstone of Greenpoint’s metal and rock music scene. The bar hinted at its closure in a cryptic post on its official Instagram on Saturday, but it’s unclear if it will be closed indefinitely.

“Saint Vitus Bar To be continued…” reads a post on the bar’s official Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who came along. 🍺”

Hundreds of people commented on the bar’s social media accounts, thanking the owners for the great times many have had at the bar since it opened in 2011.

Saint Vitus has hosted many notable performances, including Nirvana’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The bar hosted a surprise after-party with performances by Joan Jett, Lorde and Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth that paid tribute to the grunge band and ended at 4 a.m., The Rolling Stone reported in 2014.

According to the bar’s website, Saint Vitus has hosted acts such as Megadeth, Anthrax, and Babes in Toyland, among others.

“St. Vitus was like a second home to me,” Peter Catsoulis wrote on Facebook announcing the bar’s closure. “I’ve probably been to 50 to 100 shows there in the last four years. Whatever the future holds, you guys always have my support.”

PIX11 News has reached out to the bar to determine if the bar is moving or closing permanently.

“We will get back to you on Monday during our business hours,” a spokesman said.

Google lists the bar as temporarily closed, so the details of the closure remain unclear.
