Insider: Experienced Dodgers catcher could be on the injured list

Despite having the second-best record in the National League at 73-52, the Los Angeles Dodgers have had no luck due to many injuries.

Over the weekend, Tyler Glasnow, who was scheduled to start the second game of the series in St. Louis, was placed on the injured list due to tendinitis in his elbow.

But that wasn’t all. On Sunday, backup catcher Austin Barnes drew a foul when he bounced a pitch off his toe, which ultimately resulted in a bleed.

On Monday, Dodgers insider David Vassegh revealed some unfortunate news about Barnes.

“Hunter Feduccia will be at Dodger Stadium. Austin Barnes took a foul ball off his left big toe in the third inning yesterday that was bloody and painful,” Vassegh tweeted. “The Dodgers are considering a transfer to the IL.”

While the Dodgers continue to stay afloat and in the race, they continue to suffer blows. Their pitching staff has been decimated by injuries.

To make matters worse, they may also end up without Freddie Freeman, who injured his finger on a groundball on Saturday night.

But the loss of Barnes certainly hurts. He was Clayton Kershaw’s personal catcher for the past few seasons, and now they have to prepare to potentially be without their backup catcher for a while.

The 34-year-old has a .241 batting average with one home run, eight RBIs and a .602 OPS. The Dodgers still have Will Smith active, but may need to activate Feduccia and add him to the roster to replace Barnes.

We’ll see how much time Barnes has to miss.
