In Philadelphia, four murders are investigated in one day, including one on Roosevelt Boulevard.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating four separate murders in less than 24 hours.

This includes the shooting of a driver who was found dead in an SUV on Roosevelt Boulevard around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The man, identified at the time only as a man in his 30s, was found dead in the northbound lanes of the boulevard in Hunting Park.

Police were called to the scene of a car accident, but when they arrived they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the back.

The police assume that two bullets pierced the rear window, one of which hit the driver. Investigators do not yet know where the bullets came from.

The SUV was traveling north in the inside lanes when it struck the rear of a minivan and then came to rest in the median.

In North Philadelphia, a 32-year-old man was shot three times on Girard Avenue near North 12th Street around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Forensics officers could be seen collecting evidence near Popeye’s restaurant. The victim died in the hospital.

Then, at around 1:20 p.m. in West Philadelphia, a 25-year-old man was fatally shot on North 54th Street, near Peach Street.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., another fatal shooting occurred in North Philadelphia, this time at the corner of Park Avenue and Rush Street. The incident was captured by Philadelphia Police Department real-time crime cameras.

“They see a dark colored vehicle traveling south on Park Avenue. A passenger gets out, walks toward the victim and fires at least one shot, causing the victim to collapse,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

This outbreak of violence comes as the murder rate in Philadelphia is declining significantly this year.

We reviewed the data and found that the number of murders in the city has decreased by 37 percent compared to the same period last year.

There have been 161 murders since the beginning of the year, which is actually the lowest murder rate at this time of year since 2015.

As with all murder cases in Philadelphia, a $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
