After a frustrating defeat at the beginning of this series, the series had Shohei Ohtani and Decoy Bobblehead Night.

Ohtani then started with a home run, but both sides had error-ridden games that caused quite a bit of chaos. The worst blow, however, was Teoscar Hernandez‘s three-run home run in the 5th inning that gave the Dodgers the final lead in a 6-4 victory.

======

In a duel with the Orioles ace Corbin BurnesShohei Ohtani celebrated the night of the bobbleheads by opening the game with his 42nd home run of the year, making it 1-0 early. How can that momentum cause the ball to travel nearly 400 feet? We may never know.

On the other side a fighting Walker Buehler started for the Dodgers and looked good at the beginning. A clean 1st with two strikeouts made for a promising start, but after one out in the 2nd inning, an error by Max Muncy led to a runner on second base.

What followed was a completely bizarre game in which Buehler made a strikeout Cedric Mullins in a curve in the dirt, and Will Smith thought he caught the ball in mid-air or it was a foul tip and he just didn’t throw it to first base, allowing Mullins to reach the base.

Of course, it cost them dearly, as they followed up with a two-run double and a single that scored another run and made it 3-1 Orioles before Buehler barely made it through the 2nd inning without further injury. Because of those errors, he also had to throw 14 extra pitches that inning. Pathetic bullshit.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers managed to fight back against Burnes in the 3rd inning, as the Orioles themselves had a defensive error. With one out Enrique Hernández reached by an error that led to consecutive singles by Ohtani and Mookie Betts score a run.

After the two managed a double steal and both got into a good position to score, Teoscar Hernandez pulled off another brilliant feat and hit a clear three-run homer to left, which quickly gave the Dodgers a 5-3 lead.

Despite being caught off guard by the defense at the beginning, Buehler was able to find his feet briefly and (with the help of better defense) kept his scores low in the 3rd and 4th rounds.

He started the fifth with two outs, but allowed a walk after making a questionable check-swing call that easily could have resulted in a strikeout. Of course, a double followed that knocked Buehler out of the game and cut the lead to 5-4.

Buehler looked great today and could have easily gotten through the game clean with better defense and a little luck: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, 90 pitches.

Anthony Banda stepped up to prevent further damage and got the last out for Buehler in the fifth.

The offense came right back in the bottom half of the inning when a single by Enrique Hernandez and a groundout by Ohtani led to a position change at first base. Ohtani then stole second base and advanced to third base when the ball bounced and was dropped, and he then scored on a grounder by Gavin Lux that scored for a Gunnar Henderson mistakes and made it 6:4 at the end of the 5th round.

Banda continued into the 6th inning for the Dodgers, allowing only one single in that scoreless stretch. Ryan Brasier was next in the 7th, allowed a lead-off single, then made two outs and handed the game over to Alex Vesiawho managed a flyout at the end of the inning. Then Evan Phillips in the 8th, continuing his dominant August after a small slip-up last time, pitching a clean frame with two strikeouts.

Although the offense penetrated the Orioles bullpen from the 6th inning onwards, this was useless as they again could not enforce any safety. Thus, it was still a two-run lead for Michael Kopech in the 9th, but that wasn’t a problem as he continued to dominate with two strikeouts and an infield pop to finish.

Shohei’s reactions and cheers are also first class.
