Igor Shesterkin has just completed another spectacular season between the posts for the Rangers and was just named the best goaltender in the league by the NHL Network.

Shesterkin missed some time and battled a lower-body injury early on, but eventually returned to form and dominated the Presidents’ Trophy winners down the stretch and in the playoffs this year.

He was named to the All-Star Game for the third consecutive year and finished fourth in voting for the Vezina Trophy after recording 36 wins, four shutouts, a .912 save percentage and a 2.58 goals-against average in 55 appearances.

Shesterkin was at his best when it mattered most, leading the Rangers to seven straight wins to open the postseason, including a 54-save performance in a double-overtime Game 2 loss to the Hurricanes.

The 28-year-old also put in a spectacular performance in the Eastern Conference finals, despite his team’s inferiority to the Panthers. He saved over 30 shots in four of six games, giving his team a chance before they were ultimately eliminated.

“I have seen such a series from a goalkeeper since Jose Theodore In 2002 he was absolutely brilliant,” said Florida head coach Paul Maurice said afterwards.

Things will get interesting for the Rangers and Shesterkin next offseason, as he is set to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and is reportedly seeking a record-breaking goaltending contract.

However, he certainly deserves every penny he demands, as he has been the main catalyst for the Rangers’ long postseason runs over the past few seasons.
