Idaho Springs man found dead on property; Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office investigating murder

The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation after a group of locals found the body of Idaho Springs resident Paul Peavey partially covered by brush on his property on Two Brothers Road on Saturday, August 24.

A missing person report was filed for Peavey on August 21. The locals who found Peavey’s body were part of a “privately organized search effort,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

Gary Burke, a friend of Peavey, said the search was organized and carried out by locals and was due to the “inaction” of the sheriff’s department.

“We found his (Peavey’s) body within the first five minutes of the search,” Burke said. He said the body was partially covered by brush and several feet from his trailer.

Burke praised several members of the Clear Creek Fire Authority, who he said have assisted several times since the missing person was reported and during the search.

According to several friends, Peavey was known locally as a “great guy.”

Burke said his Doberman breeding was a passion.

“These dogs were his life, I mean, his whole world revolved around these dogs and these puppies,” Burke said, adding that 13 Doberman puppies were missing from Peavey’s property.

In the press release, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the whereabouts of the missing Doberman puppies was part of the ongoing investigation.

The Sheriff’s Department has enlisted the assistance of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 5thth According to a statement from the public prosecutor’s office.

Law enforcement authorities have not yet provided a motive or information on possible suspects.
