KEY QUOTE:
“Although the process of implementing tax reform in Kansas has taken years, it is something Governor Kelly’s administration has been striving to achieve since she took office as governor in 2019. The bill, Senate Bill One, proposes a $2 billion cut in state income and property taxes over the next five years.”

  • “SB 1 will impact everyone, at least to some degree. I think our retirees will get the biggest relief because we’re going to eliminate all state taxes on Social Security,” said Governor Kelly.
  • “Our families will be pleased to see the child care tax credit doubled to $6 million, which I think will make a huge difference, especially for families with many children,” Kelly said.
  • From her time as Senator for Kansas’ 18th Senate District through her tenure as Governor, Kelly has been a vocal advocate for expanding Medicaid… “There is no good logical reason not to expand Medicaid,” said Governor Kelly.
  • Kansas’ decision not to expand Medicaid has resulted in more than $7 billion in lost taxpayer money since the Affordable Care Act was passed in 2014. “It just makes absolutely no sense and has really seriously hurt our economy,” said Governor Kelly.
  • Kelly explained that when hospitals provide unpaid care in the emergency room – the most expensive place to receive health care – they have to charge other patients higher fees to cover those costs.
