Humana, the Louisville-based health insurance giant, was named to PEOPLE magazine’s 2024 list of “100 Companies that Care.”

Ranked 46th, Humana was the only Louisville-based company to make the list, which recognizes companies that “go the extra mile to honor their customers, empower their employees — and make the world a better place.”

“This is another national recognition that underscores Humana’s commitment to our hometown, our members, our patients, our employees and our planet,” said Tim Huval, Chief Administrative Officer at Humana. “However, this national recognition further reinforces our mission to support healthy environments and improve the quality of life. That’s why we place an emphasis on meaningful programs and initiatives that promote equity in physical, mental and social well-being for all people.”

PEOPLE magazine particularly recognized Humana’s employment and development opportunities for veterans. In 2011, Humana launched a hiring initiative aimed at veterans and their families. This program ultimately resulted in more than 6,000 veterans joining Humana’s workforce.

“This recognition underscores our commitment to giving back and making a difference in the communities where our employees live and work,” Huval said in a press release. “Our commitment to community is part of our DNA, and our employees demonstrate this every day by not only supporting the health and well-being of our customers and their families, but also fostering strong, supportive communities and creating positive change.”

In August, Humana was recognized as a top employer for veterans and relaunched a “military-related hiring” program.

On August 21, Humana showed its care for its hometown with its first-ever “Community Day.” The day-long event brought together thousands of Humana employees from across Louisville to volunteer for three different service projects, all focused on nutrition, the environment and exercise.

“Being named to this prestigious list is meaningful to Humana and all of Kentucky. It demonstrates how much our city and state care about our people,” Huval said. “Humana remains true to its support of our hometown through Community Day, which kicked off a statewide ‘Month of Impact’ with the goal of generating $10 million in collective impact for the local communities where Humana employees live and work.”
