Hugh Grant praises the “very good” script of Bridget Jones 4

Hugh Grant has praised the screenplay for the highly anticipated fourth Bridget Jones film, Bridget Jones: There’s Something About the Boy.

After confirming that Helen Fielding’s 2013 book of the same name will be made into a film, the actor promised his fans that the script will be “very moving and funny”.

“It’s partly based on Helen Fielding’s experiences raising two children alone after the death of her husband,” Grant said (via People).

He continued: “So Bridget is raising two kids and wondering if she should ever start dating again. It’s a very good script.”

“Bridget Jones: There’s Something About the Boy” is currently scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2025. Grant will play alongside Renée Zellweger, who reprises her role as the eponymous hopeless romantic Bridget Jones.

Bridget’s story seemed to come to a final end in 2016 in “Bridget Jones’ Baby,” after her character married Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and they had a son together.

Surprisingly, Firth is not among the returning cast members, an omission that initially left many fans curious about the reason for the omission after Mark and Bridget seemingly had a happy ending.

However, readers of the book will no doubt remember that the 2013 novel stated that Mark had actually been dead for five years, leaving Bridget to raise their two children as a single mother.

Although it is not officially confirmed, Firth’s absence and Grant’s comments seem to indicate that the film will pick up exactly this storyline.

In addition to Grant and Zellweger, the new film stars Emma Thompson – who played the sober doctor during Bridget’s pregnancy – as well as newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Doctor Strange”) and Leo Woodall (“The White Lotus,” “One Day”).

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” will be released on February 14, 2025.
