It’s strange considering that mobile phones were originally foldable, then had a unified form factor, and now are foldable again. But what we haven’t seen is a triple-folding smartphone – until now.

Huawei entered the foldable smartphone market in 2019 with the Huawei Mate X and now reports have surfaced about a possible tri-fold smartphone, with the CEO of the company’s Consumer Business Group holding a yet-to-be-announced device on a plane. The reports cite rumors from a “reliable tipster“, says Digital Chat Station. They said they have seen a prototype of the world’s first triple-folding smartphone and that this device can be folded inwards and outwards.

As for other specs, the source says this rumored device has a roughly 10-inch display, a dual-hinge design, and is thicker than a regular smartphone — by how much isn’t mentioned. Additionally, this new tri-fold device features a single punch-hole on the far left of the screen, and the device seen holding Richard Yu in the photo above is the same as the prototype Digital Chat Station reportedly saw.

The rumored device is said to feature a Kirin 9 series chipset and will arrive ahead of the release of the Mate 70, which is rumored to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2024.
