The New Orleans Saints continue their preseason play this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. The Saints defeated the Arizona Cardinals in their first game after Irish kicker Charlie Smyth made a 37-yard field goal in the final seconds of the game.
Here’s how to watch New Orleans’ second preseason game.
Kick-off time: Sunday, August 18, 7:00 p.m. CT
Location: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, California
TV: FOX, Fox Sports
Electricity: NFL+, Football
Remaining Saints preseason games: vs. Tennessee Titans (Sunday, August 25)
It’s a bye game for Klint Kubiak and the 49ers. Kubiak spent 2023 under Kyle Shanahan as passing game coordinator and is now bringing the Shanahan system to New Orleans. The Saints will see how the system should run, San Francisco’s offense has been in the top six in scoring each of the last two seasons.
Derek Carr didn’t play in the second or third preseason game last year, and there are no reports on whether or not he will play this year. He was on the field for two drives in the first game, neither of which looked promising. It wasn’t much of the actual offense New Orleans will run this season, as every team relies on standard plays in the preseason. Saints coach Dennis Allen may want to see the starters on the field one more time before the regular season, just to see if they can put together a decent drive.
Further attention will be focused on the quarterback battle between Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler. Both played well in the first preseason game and there was no difference between the two. The final two preseason games will likely determine who gets the second string in the regular season.
