How the Browns can beat the Vikings in Week 2 of the preseason

Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s command of the offense

After the team’s last practice with the Vikings on August 15, head coach Kevin Stefanski said second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson would start the second preseason game against the Vikings. Quarterback Tyler Huntley will also play and finish the game.

Game reps will be important for Thompson-Robinson as he looks to show what he can do as a backup quarterback and how he can run the offense. In the second half of the first preseason game against the Packers, Thompson-Robinson completed 14 of his 18 pass attempts for 134 yards, posting a 78% completion rate.

“His whole thing is a process, so these games are certainly a big part of it because you’re going up against a different opponent,” Stefanski said. “It’s a game environment, so that’s all part of it, or that’s a big part of it.”

In his rookie season, Thompson-Robinson led the Browns to a win over the Steelers in Week 11 of the season, but then fell in and out of the rotation and eventually suffered a hip injury that ended his rookie season.

He used the offseason to rehab from his injury and worked his way back through the offseason program, OTAs, and training camp. Stefanski has seen some growth in Thompson-Robinson during the 2024 offseason.

“I really think back to practice and how Dorian was when he came back and finally got to practice again,” Stefanski said. “It was toward the end of the offseason program, he made a few plays back then and then really got into this training camp. (He) did a good job of making every rep count, making every meeting count and certainly made some nice plays out there (on Aug. 10).”
