How Kelly Springer is revolutionizing workplace wellness and advocating for military food access

On today’s episode of The Roadmap, we’re excited to welcome Kelly Springer, CEO and Founder of Kelly’s Choice, from New York City. Springer’s journey from a young nutritionist inspired by her aunt to leading a nationwide team of 50 nutritionists is nothing short of remarkable. With her passion for making nutrition accessible to all, Springer aims to improve wellness in the workplace and advocate for nutrition education in the military. Tune in as she shares her insights, challenges and vision for the future of Kelly’s Choice.

Key findings

1. Kelly’s Choice offers a wide range of services, including a private practice with 50 dietitians across the U.S., a workplace health platform covering nutrition, sleep and exercise, and media collaborations with food companies to promote healthier eating habits.

2. Springer spoke about the challenges of scaling her business, particularly keeping track of things as it grew. Legal disputes led to the introduction of stricter protocols, such as mandatory continuing education for nutritionists, to ensure higher standards across the board.

3. A significant change in the industry is the increasing insurance coverage of nutrition services by major providers such as United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna. This allows companies to offer wellness programs at little or no cost, greatly expanding access to nutrition education.

4. In addition, Springer is actively advocating for nutritional benefits to be included in military insurance plans such as TRICARE. Currently, military members and their families do not have access to these important benefits. Springer is committed to closing this gap.

5. However, Springer’s work also has a strong focus on women’s health, particularly addressing the unique challenges women face at different stages of life. Her programs aim to educate and support women in the workplace, increasing overall well-being and productivity.

“Everyone should have access to nutrition counseling. We eat every day, but we may not know how to take care of our bodies. Currently, military members don’t have that access, and that needs to change. I’m here to make that happen.” – Kelly Springer.
