Horrific accident paralyzes 8-year-old and grandmother

OAKVILLE, Missouri (KMOV/Gray News) – An 8-year-old and her grandmother are both paralyzed after a horrific accident in Missouri, authorities said.

The two-car accident occurred on August 14 at around 3 p.m.

Officials said 8-year-old Gracie was traveling with her grandmother Barb and mother Taryn Rose when the accident occurred.

According to police, the 16-year-old who was driving the other car involved in the accident remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

According to a GoFundMe page, the teenager was traveling at over 80 miles per hour.

Gracie and Barb were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The Rose family said Gracie broke her neck and was paralyzed from the chin down.

The 8-year-old also has a broken pelvis, kidney failure and fluid in her lungs and will need a ventilator and feeding tube for the rest of her life, the fundraising page says.

“This will be a long road to recovery and while we don’t know exactly what the future holds for them, every little bit helps them as they try to get through this unexpected tragedy. Thank you all and please keep praying for them, they need a miracle from God,” the organizer said.

Barb has a broken hip, a fractured spine, and a spinal cord injury that has left her paralyzed from the chest down. She is currently intubated until her sternum heals.

Gracie’s mother, Taryn, suffered a broken rib, swelling around her kidneys, fluid around her heart, a broken vertebra and stitches above her eye. She has been released from the hospital and continues to recover.
