“Hogwarts Tournament of Houses” is the best new unscripted cable series of 2021

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses has done some ratings magic for some viewers. The November 28 premiere of the four-part Wizarding World fan competition series drew 3.1 million viewers across TBS and Cartoon Network, making it the most-watched premiere of the year for the two WarnerMedia cable networks, which aired the debut simultaneously.

On TBS, the 8 p.m. opener in Live+Same Day drew 2.3 million viewers, 918,000 in P18-49, 577,000 in P25-54, 100,000 in K2-11 and 103,000 in K9-14, making it the highest-grossing new premiere of an unscripted cable series in P18-49 (L+SD) in 2021. It was the strongest premiere of a TBS original series — scripted or unscripted — in nearly three years in P2+ and the strongest premiere of a TBS original series in nearly four years in P18-49.

On Cartoon Network, the 8 p.m. series premiere garnered 845,000 viewers in season 2, 299,000 viewers in season 1 in 18-49, 132,000 viewers in season 2 in 11, and 78,000 viewers in season 2 in 9-14. The first episode garnered 16% more viewers in season 2 in 11 and 44% more viewers in season 2+ than the previous four weeks (38,000 viewers in season 2 in 11 and 214,000 viewers in season 2). It was the best series premiere on Cartoon Network in 18+ since December 2019 and the #1 series premiere on Cartoon Network this year in 18-49.

In the four-part knockout quiz competition hosted by Helen Mirren, fans of JK Rowling’s wizarding world were able to test their knowledge and compete for the honorary title of House Cup winner. In the episode on Sunday evening, Team Hufflepuff narrowly defeated Team Gryffindor.

In the next episode, which premieres this Sunday, December 5th at 8 p.m., fans will get a taste of 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter: Return to HogwartsThe Max Original Retrospective Special will feature Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, filmmaker Chris Columbus and other cast members from all eight Harry Potter Films for the first time to celebrate the anniversary of the first film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
