Hikaru Utada is currently on her highly anticipated tour SCIENCE FICTION TOUR 2024their first concerts since 2018. The tour began with a dazzling performance in Fukuoka and has since visited five locations including Aichi, Saitama, Miyagi and Tokyo. The buzz on social media reflects the excitement surrounding the live performances and shows an enthusiastic response from fans.

To 10 AugustUtada made history with her first solo concert in Asia, which took place in Taipei ArenaThe event generated great excitement, with long lines for photo opportunities and merchandise. Utada, dressed in a striking white outfit, captivated 10,000 fans with her stage presence.

During the concert, Utada played a dynamic setlist of 22 songs, including “Travel (new recording)” and new track ‘Electricity’. Utada wore three outfits during the performance, the second being a colorful ensemble made from brewed protein fibers courtesy of biotechnology company Spiber.

At the beginning of the show, Utada greeted the audience in Chinese, saying, “How are you all? Hello, I’m Hikaru Utada. I’m very happy to be in Taipei. Thank you all for coming today! Let’s have a great time together.” Utada then performed the newly recorded version of her popular global hit ‘Hikari’.

After a lively performance of the 2024 update of “Traveling” that had the audience on their feet, Utada spoke to fans again and reminded them, “It’s hot, so don’t forget to drink enough. Enjoy the next song.” Utada then played ‘First Love’ to thunderous applause.

In the middle of the concert, Utada said, “This is my first performance in a country whose language I don’t know, so I was worried, but I can really feel your emotions and that makes me so happy. Thank you.” She added, “This tour is to celebrate my 25th anniversary, but I want to celebrate all of our 25 years together. I’ve always felt your support even though I’ve never been here. I knew you were listening to my new songs, and I always wanted to come here, so I’m really happy to be here today.” Utada then sang “Hanataba o Kimi ni”as a sign of gratitude to their fans.

Before the encore, Utada asked the audience, “What should I eat before I go home?” After receiving responses from fans such as “tapioca” and “xiao long bao,” Utada jokingly added, “Aren’t you all hungry? Are you all OK? Right now, I’m already full from everyone’s love!”

Utada then mixed Chinese and Japanese and said, “The next song will be the last, but I want to keep singing and stay here with you longer. I really want to say it again and again – thank you for coming today. Let’s sing together!” Utada concluded with “Kimi ni Muchuu”and ended the concert to thunderous applause.

Following the performance the playlist ENCORE Hikaru Utada with the songs from the tour setlist was made available on streaming platforms.

The HIKARU UTADA SCIENCE FICTION TOUR 2024 will continue to delight her fans with upcoming shows, including her first performances in Hong Kong on August 17 and 18 and in Osaka on August 27 and 28, leading up to the grand finale at K Arena in Kanagawa on September 1st.
