The Eagles’ stars will most likely be wrapped in bubble wrap again for their preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

That’s because the Eagles had a joint practice with the Patriots on Tuesday, with quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, wide receivers AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, four of the five offensive linemen and cornerback Darius Slay all working out.

So, similar to the season opener last Friday against the Ravens, this game will be about the Eagles’ young players and those fighting for a spot on the roster.

But the Eagles’ stars did their job against the Patriots, and that will likely have to suffice as far as game action goes until the season opener against the Green Bay Packers on September 6 in Brazil.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said there are several ways to achieve this, and it doesn’t just have to happen in the preseason games.

“Every time you step on the field, whether it’s at practice, a preseason game or a regular season game, you’re trying to solidify your habits,” Sirianni said. “Your habits around your fundamentals, your details, right? Your details of knowing what to do and having everyone on the same page. Your details of tackling, blocking, breaking blocks, catching the football, securing the ball, taking the ball away.”

“And then you have to be clever in situational football. And then you try to show your commitment, your tireless effort in every game, your toughness.”

On Thursday the young players have the chance to show this.
