Henry County Commission Chairman speaks to poll workers before election

HENRY COUNTY, Alabama (WTVY) – There are just over 70 days until the election on November 5th.

Although this seems a long way off, places like Henry County are already preparing for it.

Commission chairman David Money said finding volunteers could be a challenge.

“That was certainly true when they were making $85 a day, which is not even minimum wage. Before, you were restricted and could only work at polling places in the same precinct where you voted. In some smaller locations, you couldn’t find the minimum of four poll workers who had voted there and were willing to work there. The new law now says that if you’re a registered voter in Henry County, you can work wherever you’re needed. That helped tremendously,” Money said.

With these changes, the new polling places in Henry County and the pay increase for poll workers to $150, Money is confident the county will be able to recruit the 85 helpers needed for November 5.

Any person living in Henry County who wishes to register to vote, update their registration information, or confirm their polling location should contact the Henry County Board of Registrars at (334) 585-6080.

Anyone interested in serving as a poll worker should contact Ashley Eiland in the County Commission office at (334) 585-3708.
