  • The introduction of new factions in Helldivers 2 can give Arrowhead more room for unique and exciting missions that rival Operation Dark Fluid.

The gameplay of Helldivers 2 has given people many great moments. A healthy amount of cooperation, or lack thereof, combined with the unpredictable factors of players and enemy AI has produced many fun, frustrating, and sometimes even awe-inspiring combat spectacles. However, some would say that nothing comes close to the thrilling and terrifying displays that Meridia’s Dark Fluid Mission offered. While difficult, many were able to experience certain situations that felt like they came straight out of a sci-fi action movie, something the game should offer players again.

Although Helldivers 2The Dark Fluid mission is no longer accessible due to the destruction of Meridia, but it left a lasting impression on the community. Aside from being remembered for its challenge, players usually remember its final act, where an endless horde of Shriekers and waves of other Terminids tried to prevent the salvage. While this situation could be incredibly frustrating, it provided an experience that some would consider one of the best and most exciting moments of the game. There has yet to be another mission that has offered the same epic spectacle as the Dark Fluid mission, and perhaps the developers should consider adding more in the future.

Helldivers 2 is unlikely to venture into crossover territory, and this might be the best way to preserve the uniqueness of its world.

How the game can recreate the Dark Fluid mission’s “Final Stand” moment

The final act of the difficult Dark Fluid mission usually led to frustrating, astonishing or sometimes amusing results. As it is one of the Helldivers 2 Missions that were only meant to be completed as a team, the uniqueness of each individual’s playstyle would become a factor that would determine how things would turn out. Combine this with the challenge and unpredictability of the operation’s final stand during the extraction phase, and many memorable outcomes were guaranteed. If the developers ever decide to recreate such an experience, there are a few ways to do it:

  • A automaton mission where players are hunted by the various variants of robot tanks during the extraction phase
  • A mission where the extraction point collapses into a deep nest, forcing players to call for safety in the depths of the Terminid Domain.
  • A mission that combines both the threat of Terminid and Automaton, with the extraction being a battle of all against all, with each trying to wipe out the other

While such implementations could lead to some of the more difficult mission objectives in Helldivers 2they have a good chance of producing moments similar to those of Operation Dark Fluid. More epic scenarios can help increase the game’s popularity while maintaining community loyalty, meaning Arrowhead Game Studios shouldn’t miss the opportunity to develop more.

Why a new faction could bring back the Dark Fluid mission’s biggest moment

Aside from the hype a new enemy would generate, the way they are introduced could recreate the different sensations that the Dark Fluid’s final mission evoked. Whether it’s the seemingly sophisticated but deadly Illuminati faction or an entirely new threat to the Managed Democracy, their missions have the potential to produce many amazing moments. If the developers decide to do so, they can design each objective to recreate the spectacle that the Dark Fluid’s final act offered, and not just have it take place during the extraction phase. Adding a new enemy allows Arrowhead Game Studios to get creative with how they want to showcase them, potentially leading to situations equal to or even superior in grandeur to the operation to destroy Meridia.

The Dark Fluid mission was a potential goldmine for Helldivers 2 because its final act, along with its other parts, provided many unforgettable experiences. The developers should consider adding more similar operations as they can easily show the current community why they should continue to support and enjoy the game and its development.
