Heavy thunderstorms possible today and Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Two Weather days of the first warning Due to the possibility of strong, isolated thunderstorms, weather warnings have been issued for today and Saturday.

In addition to the chance of storms, it will be very hot and humid today. A heat advisory is in effect in several counties until 7 p.m. Air temperatures will be between 95 and 97 degrees in most areas, but “feels like” temperatures could reach 100 degrees or more this afternoon. Limit your time outdoors and stay hydrated.

In western Middle Tennessee, temperatures will feel like they'll reach triple digits today.

This morning will see showers and some thunderstorms, starting in southern Kentucky and then spreading into Middle Tennessee. While most of the storm activity will occur in the morning and early afternoon, we could see a few more storms later in the day on the Cumberland Plateau. Any storms that form today have the potential to produce heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding and damaging wind gusts.

The rain should clear up during the night, but we’ll repeat the storm forecast on Saturday. Be prepared for more isolated thunderstorms in the morning and early afternoon. Just like today, tomorrow’s storms will bring the threat of damaging straight-line winds and torrential downpours. Saturday won’t be as hot and humid, but highs will still be just above 35 degrees.

The rain will stop and temperatures will start to cool on Sunday, with highs expected to be above 30 degrees again, with mostly sunny skies.

The dry, sunny and cooler weather will continue for the rest of the week. Maximum temperatures will be around 30 degrees, minimum temperatures around 15 degrees and even over 15 degrees!
