Heatwave hits Charlotte Metro ahead of Labor Day weekend: What to expect

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – After a week of calm, cool weather, heat and humidity are returning to the Charlotte area this week.

Record high temperatures are possible this week, especially during the week as heat and humidity increase, with highs exceeding 30 degrees for several days.

As Labor Day weekend approaches, the chances of rain increase. Here’s what to expect and when.

Warm-up phase on Tuesday

According to our First Alert meteorologists, high temperatures on Tuesday, August 27, will be below 35 degrees. The high should be around 34 degrees by 5 p.m.

However, due to the humidity, temperatures will feel even hotter – around 38 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday will be sunny with a slight chance of rain.

During the evening, temperatures will drop slightly, reaching just over 27 degrees around 9 p.m. At night, lows will be just over 15 degrees.

Even hotter Wednesday, Thursday

It will be even hotter and more humid on Wednesday and Thursday. Our meteorologists have issued a first warning for both days due to high temperatures.

Highs on Wednesday and Thursday will be between 35 and 40 degrees. Taking humidity into account, these temperatures will feel more like 39 degrees.

In direct sunlight, temperatures can feel even hotter.

On Wednesday the chance of rain is very low. However, on Thursday this trend will change.

From Thursday the probability of rain increases

The probability of rain will increase slightly on Thursday and will continue to increase throughout the rest of the week.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible late in the day on Thursday. There is about a 30% chance of wet weather in our region on Thursday.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms will increase on Friday, and even more so on Saturday and Sunday. Scattered thunderstorms are likely both days this weekend. Storms are also possible on Labor Day – Monday, September 2nd.

Heavy rain is possible daily from Thursday through Monday, especially in the afternoon and evening, but the rain is not expected to be torrential.
