Hayes Fawcett’s “Over Florida” obsession borders on football fan fiction

Hayes Fawcett’s “Over Florida” obsession borders on football fan fiction

We here at Hail Florida Hail try our best to stay out of silly media wars. Everyone in the media has a role to play, and we want to be respectful of everyone involved, whether they’re covering Florida football or just a national voice in the sport.

However, there are some with a national platform who seem to gravitate toward the Gators when they need content engagement. Limp Bizkit Once you’ve said it, sometimes things turn into something stupid. And then you have to bang the table.

If you are not familiar with Hayes FawcettHe is a recruiter for On3s national website. And we want to point out right at the start that the following is not intended to reflect the work of the local On3 reporters for the Gators, as they do a fair and honest job.

Fawcett is best known for tweeting the commitments of nearly every top-ranked recruit in the country, using a stylized graphic to do so. Many current Gators have announced their own commitments through Fawcett.

But last summer, fans began to notice this trend in Fawcett: Many pledges were campaigning for their school “over Florida.” It didn’t matter if it was a potential Billy Napier with whom he had not spoken in weeks; Fawcett claimed that Florida was among the finalists for all of these candidates.

It’s a weird way to encourage engagement for the most part, but we all have to do what we have to do. But over the weekend, the “Over Florida” trend reached absurd levels.

Kennan Britt, Brother of the former Auburn and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers Linebackers KJ Britt, announced his commitment to South Carolina over the weekend. The 2026 four-star EDGE had Auburn, UCFAnd Arkansas in its On3 RPM prediction model.

But in the graphic Fawcett tweeted, he claimed that Britt chose South Carolina “over Oregon and Florida.”

Wait, what?

Florida offered Britt a contract on June 18, but Graham Hall from Swamp247 points out that Britt dropped his top five three weeks ago and Florida was not among the finalists.

The usual retort is, “Well, he’s just posting what the kids tell him.” If that’s the case, why bother having an RPM model if it’s so incredibly inaccurate?

And are such posts ultimately mostly semantics? 100%. It doesn’t change the fact that Florida’s 2025 recruiting class needs a strong finish or it risks being a disaster.

However, as On3 continues to enter the recruiting space and aims to become the premier recruiting source in the country, there are times when it is imperative to protect the Florida Gator brand.

Because going back to Limp Bizkit, it’s all about the “he says, she says” (nonsense). I think you better stop throwing (stuff) out there.

This will give you credibility.
