Harry Potter books get fantastic new covers

JK Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books have been revamped with brand new covers for the children’s editions by award-winning British artist Jonny Duddle.

The new artwork shows a much more cartoonish Harry than we’re used to, but we have to admit, we’re fans of this new look.

The original covers of the fantasy novel series had a more traditional illustration style, with artists Thomas Taylor, Cliff Wright, Giles Greenfield and Jason Cockcroft all contributing drawings for the initial publications.

For the new covers, Duddle gave Harry a more pronounced mushroom head that better fits Rowling’s vision of the boy who lived.

The artist admits that he wasn’t a diehard Potter fan before the commission and had only read the first book, but he believes it gave him a fresh perspective on the books.

“I saw the first (‘Harry Potter’ film) in the cinema after reading the book, but that was it. In some ways, that probably makes me an exception, and I think it’s a good starting point to approach the world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter without prejudice. I read each book in turn and immediately develop the cover, picking up the images that JK Rowling’s magical words conjure up in my head.”
