“Harry Potter” actress Miriam Margolyes says adult fans should have “got over” the franchise by now: “It’s for kids”

“Harry Potter” actress Miriam Margolyes is worried about the adult fans of the popular franchise.

“They should have gotten over that by now,” Margolyes said in a recent interview with New Zealand’s 1News. “You know, I mean, that was 25 years ago, and we’re talking about children.” I think it’s for kids.”

Margolyes played Professor Pomona Sprout, a herbology teacher at Hogwarts and head of Hufflepuff House. She appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011.

“They get stuck in it,” Margolyes said. “I do cameos and people say, ‘Oh, we’re having a Harry Potter-themed wedding,’ and I think, ‘Gosh, what’s their first fun night going to be?’ I can’t even think about it. No.”

Although she admitted that the fantasy film series was “wonderful” and she was “very grateful for it,” Margolyes reiterated that “it’s over.”

In June last year, Margolyes expressed a similar sentiment to Vogue UK, saying that the Harry Potter franchise “doesn’t mean as much to me as it does” to fans.

“For me, Harry Potter wasn’t important,” she said. “I was very happy to get the part and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

While Margolyes believes that “Harry Potter” is over, Warner Bros. Discovery apparently sees things differently, as the company plans to release a “Harry Potter” television series on Max in 2026. The series – with an entirely new cast – is set to span seven seasons and adapt all of the novels in JK Rowling’s bestselling book series.

“We’ve spent a lot of time with JK and her team,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said in February. “Both sides are just thrilled to revitalize this franchise. Our conversations have been great and we couldn’t be more excited about what lies ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
