HALF-TIME REPORT: Kick Sauber – Can changes at the front help the team move further forward as the wait for points continues?

Best moment

The weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix brought some positive moments for Kick Sauber both on and off the track, even if this was ultimately not reflected in the final results.

After a close intra-team battle in the sprint on Saturday, Zhou narrowly missed out on a point with ninth place, while Bottas’ first Q3 appearance of the year in qualifying was another feel-good moment.

But perhaps it was Zhou’s emotional reaction as he raced in front of his home crowd for the first time that was particularly special. The 24-year-old – the only driver from China to ever compete in Formula 1 – received a standing ovation from the crowd as he crossed the finish line and was overcome with emotion after getting out of the car.

Worst moment

Pit stop problems have been a constant problem for Sauber in the early stages of the season, adding to the lack of results. Bottas had to pit for 52 seconds in Bahrain due to a twisted wheel nut, dropping him to P19.

Similar incidents occurred in Saudi Arabia and Australia. In the latter country, Bottas missed out on possible points because his stop was delayed by around 30 seconds.

Fortunately, the team eventually got the problem under control, but the points drought continued throughout the 14 rounds of the championship so far.
