Greenville County schools’ test scores exceed South Carolina average

Schools in Greenville County Students outperformed the state on several tests in the 2023-24 school year.

According to the latest assessment data from the South Carolina Department of Education, Greenville County elementary and middle schools scored higher than the state in English and math on the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessment (SC READY).

The county’s middle and high school students also outperformed the state in all subjects on the end-of-year exam program. Subjects tested include Algebra 1, English 2, Biology and U.S. History.

Students in grades 11 and 12 can take South Carolina’s Career Ready Assessment, which is designed to measure basic career skills. Approximately 76% of GCS students assessed in spring 2024 received a diploma. This percentage was higher than the state average of 72.2%.

GCS Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster said this year’s successes underscore the focused and purposeful work of students, faculty and district administration.

“The combined efforts have enabled students to not only achieve academic excellence, but also prepare for their future with important credentials that demonstrate their readiness to enter the workforce or continue their education,” Royster said.
