Greene County fugitive arrested after weeks-long manhunt

GREENE COUNTY, Pennsylvania (KDKA) – A Greene County suspect who has been on the run for weeks has been taken into custody.

Greene County Police Chief William DeForte confirmed to KDKA-TV on Sunday that the suspect, Jimmy Butterfield, 43, was arrested on Saturday. Butterfield had been on the run since Aug. 2 after police executed a search warrant on his home.

According to Police Chief DeForte, police have been investigating Butterfield for months because of two criminal incidents.

Butterfield is accused of operating an auto repair shop and illegally selling motorcycles and parts. He is also accused of dealing in medium-strength drugs such as crystal meth, Chief DeForte added.

The drugs were pharmaceutically manufactured and came from Mexico, police say. Authorities believe Butterfield bought the drugs directly from a cartel or cartel agent in Mexico.

Butterfield was questioned at his home on August 2 during the execution of the search warrant.

Officers discovered over a pound of pharmaceutical-grade crystal meth, an illegal sawed-off shotgun, an assault rifle, several stolen motorcycles and illegal motorcycle components, Police Chief DeForte said.

Other items seized included scales for weighing narcotics, cutting agents, bags for packaging crystal meth and drug paraphernalia.

While officers were executing the search warrant, Butterfield fled his apartment and has been on the run from authorities ever since.

According to Police Chief DeForte, officers arrested Butterfield with the assistance of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office and public informants.

According to police, Butterfield is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess weapons.
