Greenbrier Wolfpack defeats Grovetown in Game of the Week

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – In the last two years, Greenbrier has won just one game.

That was yesterday and today we live in the Sean Tiernan era.

After the dramatic defeat in the season opener, the team did not allow a single point on the way to victory in the second half of the game.

From kick-off we knew why this was our game of the week.

Senior wide receiver Vaden Guyton carries the kickoff 95 yards to the house, giving the Pack an early lead.

Grovetown struck back on its next drive thanks to a nice catch by #9 Damon Edwards Jr.

At halftime the score was 14:14.

But here the game was won.

After blowing an early lead against Harlem last week, coach Tiernan said that such a defensive collapse would not be accepted this week.

And as we mentioned before, the Green Wall ramps up in the second half and harasses the Warriors, allowing 0 points in the second half.

Now, Greenbrier’s varsity football team wasn’t the only team being repopulated Friday night. The girls flag football team was also honored at halftime for its state championship win earlier this year in Atlanta.

The Pack takes their first win of the season with a final score of 28-14 and it is also the first in Coach Tiernan’s career at Greenbrier.

They will stay here next week as they host Statesboro.

The Warriors are back on the road next week as they head to Evans looking to avoid three straight losses to start the season.
