Green Day performed a new take on their 1997 classic, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), at their recent St. Louis performance. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and his bandmates – drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt – addressed the audience’s concerns about an approaching thunderstorm during the concert on Thursday, August 15.

Therefore, the punk rock trio gave their fans a rocking farewell during the St. Louis stop of The Saviors Tour, which started in May. The tour was organized in support of their 14th studio album Saviors, which will be released on January 19, 2024 via Reprise Records.

“Okay, guys, that’s it. We have to get you out of here because there’s a big storm coming,” the 52-year-old lead singer and co-founder announced before the last song.

Moments later, Joe Armstrong entertained fans leaving the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater with a sped-up acoustic version of “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” the second single from Green Day’s fifth studio album, Nimrod.

In a video posted by a fan on YouTube, the American Idiot musician can be seen racing through two verses of the late ’90s song, singing in a higher key and pausing at one point to say “Keep walking.” Some in the crowd joined him to finish the last song, while others hurriedly left the venue to escape the storm.

When Armstrong loudly thanked the crowd at the end, Cool (51) and Dirnt (52) joined him before leaving the stage. “I hope you had the time of your life,” said the Green Day frontman.

The hit “Good Riddance (The Time of Your Life)” was written for Armstrong’s “first real girlfriend” after she moved to Ecuador, the singer recently told People.

Heartbroken over her, he wrote the love song, which over the years took on a life of its own and was played everywhere from graduations to funerals. It was later included on the track list of her 1997 album Nimrod and became a staple at live concerts.

Green Day, founded in 1987 by Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt, is celebrating the new release “Saviors” as well as the 30th anniversary of its 1994 album “Dookie” and the 20th anniversary of its 2004 LP “American Idiot,” People reported.
