ATHENS, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — Greek tourism revenues rose 12.2 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2024, reaching 6.921 billion euros (7.75 billion U.S. dollars), according to latest data from the Bank of Greece.

The increase in revenue is due to a 15.5 percent increase in the number of inbound tourists, although average spending per trip fell by 3.1 percent.

Germany was the leader with over 1.2 billion euros in tourism revenue, followed by the United Kingdom with just over one billion euros and the USA with 540 million euros, the report says.

In June alone, revenue from travel rose by 7.7 percent compared to the same period last year, to a total of 3.1 billion euros. This was due to an increase in the number of incoming travelers by 8.8 percent.

In June, Greece recorded the highest revenue from British tourists. Revenue from Great Britain rose by 42.5 percent to 608.9 million euros. Revenue from France rose by 1.0 percent to 163.9 million euros and from Italy by 12.9 percent to 144.9 million euros.
