Great heat and high humidity on the way

Great heat and high humidity on the way

At the start of the work week, the air will be the warmest of the entire summer. Monday and Tuesday are both FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAYS for great heat, humidity and probability of storms.

Heat warnings are in effect for areas from Green Bay to the Southwest on Monday afternoon. The heat index could reach 40°C in these areas. It won’t be as extreme near Lake Michigan. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids if you’re working outside for long periods of time. Take frequent breaks and wear light, light-colored clothing. It’s best to stay in an air-conditioned environment. Tuesday will remain fairly warm and humid.

As far as storm chances go, Monday looks mostly dry. I can’t completely rule out a storm tonight and early Monday morning and later in the day in the Northwoods, but the atmosphere should be pretty well overcast. Things could get even more severe Monday night and Tuesday morning. Current data suggests a storm complex could impact parts of our area. If that happens, it could bring strong wind gusts, hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. It’s worth noting that the location, timing, and overall spread are still uncertain. Additional storms could move in during the day Tuesday as well. It’s unclear how much or how little new development might occur…for now, it’s more of a wait-and-see scenario.

There will be a brief respite on Wednesday, but another cold front could bring more showers and storms on Thursday. Some of these could linger into Friday morning before clearing and drying out. Later in the week it will still be seasonably warm with highs around 27°C.

Labor Day weekend is getting better and better. While a scattered shower or storm late Saturday night isn’t completely out of the question, it looks like there will be plenty of sunshine throughout the weekend. Highs around 27 degrees are likely on Saturday, while Sunday and Monday will be a cooler and more refreshing 21 degrees.
