Goran Dragic is not going to make the Hall of Fame. He didn’t have a farewell tour where every team he played against gave him a gift. But make no mistake, Goran Dragic was great as a player. In his 15-year NBA career, I think there were three different Dragics. The early 7 Seconds or Less version with the Suns where he was this young, intriguing point guard off the bench. Then there was the Round 2 version with the Suns after a stop in HOU where he developed into a starting quality player and was named to an All-NBA team. From there it was on to MIA where Dragic would spend most of his career (7) and was named to his first All-Star team.

A player I could describe as a killer on the court, a guy who always seemed to make big shots in the most crucial moments. The best description I would give for Goran Dragic as an NBA player is “solid”. He’s just a solid point guard who you know will fight to the end. Dragic got hot during games and somehow became the most unstoppable player on the court. The nickname “The Dragon” is not for nothing. With career averages of 13.3/3.0/4.7 at 45/36% in 946 total regular season games and 14.2/3.3/3.3 at 44/34% in 62 postseason games, he’s had a hell of a run over the last 15+ years. Add in everything he’s done for Slovenia and he’s definitely a player worth celebrating.

The HOF is out, but instead Dragic gets something that I think is an incredible idea.

The “farewell game” is a great idea that 1000000% needs to become the norm. This is WAY cooler than watching someone get a gift and pretending to like it. Fuck that. This is how the legends of the NBA and the game of basketball should be honored. Get all his buddies together and play some 5v5 games. Look at those names! I’m pretty sure this is Chris Bosh’s first time playing basketball since his blood clot scare, which is awesome, just like it’s awesome to see shit like this

Remember how much fun it was to watch Steph/KD/LeBron on Team USA this summer. You mean to tell me it wouldn’t be great to see them all play together again in a game like this when they finally ride off into the sunset? Of course it would. That’s partly why all those pro-am runs during the lockout season were so entertaining. Legends teaming up will always be a must, and honestly, it wouldn’t shock me one bit if this became the norm. Given the league involved

and streaming this game on their app is just the beginning to me. There’s no reason not to keep going, especially with legends that have either recently retired or are retiring soon. Like, why can’t we do this for Melo? Or Blake Griffin? Or Kemba? Or John Wall? Do it for a charity or something so everyone wins. The point is, I would watch every single one of these farewell games and I would really like to see something come of it. Adam Silver should spend less time trying to make the NBA Cup a tradition and instead focus on making these farewell games a tradition in the future. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
