Good Pickin’ Farm hosts an annual summer camp day for adults

WESTFORD – Summer camps aren’t just for kids, at least not in Westford.

Good Pickin’ Farm hosted its annual Adult Summer Camp Day on August 10th, where adults could participate in summer camp activities for a day.

“I am jealous of the fun the children have at Farm Camp,” website asked the visitors.

The farm says the idea was based on their children’s camp after receiving positive feedback from adults who expressed interest in organizing an adult camp day.

“A lot of people we talked to about our kids’ camp said, ‘I want to go there.’ So three years ago we decided to start a day camp for adults,” Erin Chapman, one of the farm’s founders, told WestfordCAT.

Good Pickin’ Farm launched its adult camp day in 2022, two years after the start of its kids’ camp.

“The first year, people said, ‘Yes, camp,’ and were really excited,” Chapman said.

After opening the farm in 2020, founders Chapman, Sandra Habe and Jennifer Mitton had the idea of starting a children’s camp. Chapman said they were concerned there would not be enough interest to run the children’s camp.

“We didn’t think we could do a camp for kids, and a week before we said, ‘OK, we can do this, so let’s do it,'” Chapman said.

Two years later, they came up with the idea of setting up a camp day for adults where adults could experience the joys of childhood again on a farm.

“Basically, it’s just a time for adults to do all the things they think they can’t do, even though everything we do here is for all ages,” Chapman said.

They offer a variety of activities to give adults the same fun experience that the kids enjoy at camp. These activities include animal visits, tie-dye t-shirts, hayrides, goat walks, pony rides, slides, and popsicles to end the day. According to Chapman, even the animals love summer camps.

“All the animals love human visits. Most of them grew up here and are used to getting so much attention that they love the visitors,” Chapman said.

The children’s camp runs from June to August and offers children the opportunity to learn about working on a farm in a fun way. Campers have the opportunity to spend time with the animals, do crafts and play games. There are new activities every week to keep things fun and exciting.

Kids camp is for children ages three to 13 and typically includes several campers per group. Good Pickin’ Farm typically has about 40 campers ages three to five and about 50 to 70 campers ages six to 13.

Chapman says you’re never too old to have the same fun as the kids at summer camp.

“Who doesn’t love popsicles and spend the day with baby goats and bunnies,” she said.

She added: “We just try to put as much fun stuff in there as possible.”
