Good News Church fundraiser benefits Spade family | News, Sports, Jobs

MCALISTERVILLE – A benefit spaghetti dinner is planned for Saturday, August 17, for the family of a Richfield man who recently lost his battle with cancer.

Charlie Spade, a member of Good News Lutheran Brethren Church in McAlisterville, died over the weekend after being diagnosed with terminal melanoma. He was the father of five children. His wife, Christy, is a stay-at-home mom and their children are homeschooled.

Stacey Snyder, a church member and one of the organizers, said the fundraiser was designed to help alleviate the Spade family’s financial hardship.

“We hope to raise a lot of money for them,” said Snyder, referring to the family’s bills.

The all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. and continues until food runs out at Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Route 35 North, McAlisterville (across from East Juniata High School).

Dinner includes spaghetti, mixed salad, garlic bread, drinks and dessert. The cost of the meal is paid for as a donation.

“The church has many people who are willing to serve,” said Snyder. “So we have a lot of helpers.”

Snyder welcomes anyone who wants to come and support the Spade family through their ups and downs.

“They are a family with very strong faith,” she explained.

The church also accepts online donations at https://goodnewsonline.com/give-online/. Simply indicate “The Spade Family” in the memo line. Checks may also be mailed or dropped off at the church address: Good News Lutheran Brethren Church, 32868 Route 35 North, McAlisterville, PA 17049.

As funeral arrangements are pending, please check the church website or Facebook page to confirm any changes to the benefit dinner date.
