Welcome to Good Morning, Illini Nation, your daily dose of college basketball news from Illini sportswriter and AP Top 25 pick Scott Richey. Each morning he shares insight on Brad Underwood’s team and college basketball in general:

Illinois added an offer to Shawnee Mission Northwest (Kan.) standout Keaton Wagler to its 2025 recruiting list this week. The 6-foot-6 guard is considered a promising prospect and gains traction with an offer coming from Minnesota on the same day as the Illini.

Wagler has a dozen other Division I offers. Most of them came this summer, with Kansas City being the only team to offer during Wagler’s junior season at Shawnee Mission Northwest. Other offers came from UT-Rio Grande Valley, LeMoyne, Northern Colorado, Murray State, Oral Roberts, UIC, DePaul, Southern Illinois, Saint Louis, Colorado State and Tulsa.

Wagler helped Shawnee Mission Northwest to an undefeated season in 2023-24 and win the KHSSAA Class 6A state championship. It was the first state title in program history and Wagler averaged 12.5 points, 6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the Cougars, who returned all five starters from their championship team.
