Gilbert Arenas makes shocking comparison of Suns’ Devin Booker to Stephen Curry

Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns is often compared to many of the NBA’s best shooters and point scorers, but never more so than this Friday when Gilbert Arenas shared his thoughts on the former Kentucky Wildcats star.

The former Washington Wizards star expressed a surprising opinion when talking about Booker, Trae Young and Stephen Curry. “Devin Booker is viewed as more of a scorer than Steph,” Arenas said in a conversation with former NBA colleague Brandon Jennings. “But Steph’s whole game (is scoring),” Jennings added, to which Arenas responded, “Trae Young is viewed as more of a natural scorer than Curry.”

The deal came in the wake of the announcement of a new Olympic-themed Devin Booker sneaker. In the meantime, the Suns released a talented forward to make room for an open roster spot.

Arenas’ approach is certainly turning heads, as it compares the details of two players’ games in a way that many fans haven’t thought about.

Arena’s voice seemed to get a little too quiet when he said Booker was considered a better scorer than Stephen Curry, even shortly after Curry’s monstrous performance near the end of the 2024 Summer Olympics gold medal game against France.

Arenas tried to argue that Booker has a more complete scoring package by first discussing the mid-range game, to which Jennings responded that Curry “has all of that.”

He also added that Atlanta Hawks point guard/shooting guard Trae Young is considered “a more natural scorer” than Curry – a puzzling assessment that caused Jennings to shake his head and exclaim, “That’s crazy.”

The comparison led to a heated debate when the two former NBA guards competed against each other on the show “Gil’s Arena.”

Booker’s contribution to Team USA, revisited

Booker played a solid final game with Team USA against France, scoring 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 7-of-7 from the free throw line. He made his only three-pointer of the night and scored his points in a variety of ways, not just from beyond the three-point line.

Perhaps this distinction is the reason for Arenas’ comment about Booker being a scorer, while Curry is labeled more as a pure shooter.

Suns fans know all too well that Booker can score from anywhere on the court. In his next season in Phoenix, Booker’s job will be to pull it all together and lead his Suns back to the NBA Finals by playing as smartly and efficiently as possible.
