Gilbert Arenas is mocked for claiming Devin Booker and Trae Young are better scorers than Stephen Curry: “Everything for clicks”

Gilbert Arenas recently caused controversy on his show “Gils Arena” when he claimed that Devin Booker and Trae Young are naturally better scorers than Stephen Curry. This bold statement sparked considerable debate among fans and analysts.

Arenas explained, “Devin Booker is viewed as more of a scorer than Steph. A natural scorer. Just like Trae Young is viewed as more of a natural scorer than Curry.” He argued that while Curry is undoubtedly a great scorer, many view him as more of a shooter than a pure scorer.

Fans were unconvinced by Arena’s comparison of Curry to Trae Young and Devin Booker and trolled him online.

To understand Arenas’ argument, it’s important to examine the scoring styles of these players. In his six-year career, Trae Young has averaged 25.5 points per game while shooting 43.6% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range. His best season was 2019-20, when he averaged 29.6 points per game, demonstrating his ability to score from nearly any position on the court.

Devin Booker has established himself as a versatile scorer known for his mid-range game and ability to score in a variety of ways. Over the course of his career, he has averaged 24.3 points per game while shooting 46.4% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range. His best season came in 2022-23, when he averaged 27.8 points per game while shooting an impressive 49.4% from the field.

By comparison, Stephen Curry has averaged 24.8 points per game over his 15-year career, shooting 45.0% from the field and an exceptional 40.8% from beyond the three-point line. Curry has led the league in scoring twice, with his best season coming in 2020-21, when he averaged 32.0 points per game and shot 48.2% from the field and 42.1% from three-point range.

Gilbert Arenas says Booker and Young have consistently been their teams’ leading scorers and have relied heavily on their scoring ability to lead their teams. Curry, while a prolific scorer, is often viewed primarily as an exceptional shooter, especially from distance.

Despite this perception, Curry’s career statistics and scoring titles show that he is more than just a shooter. His ability to score efficiently and in high-pressure situations belies Arenas’ claim. While Booker and Young may fit the mold of traditional scorers, Curry’s overall scoring impact arguably exceeds theirs, as he combines excellent shooting with natural scoring ability.
