George Gervin turned back the clock for a half while Michael Jordan was out

George Gervin turned back the clock for a half while Michael Jordan was out

The 1985–86 regular season was a nightmare for Chicago Bulls fans.

Michael Jordan played only 18 games after breaking his foot earlier in the year. The Bulls won only 30 games but still made the playoffs, with Jordan delivering a memorable 63-point performance against the Boston Celtics.

However, there was another shining moment for the Bulls during that dark, dreary season. Hall of Famer George Gervin spent a year with the Bulls. He was nearing the end of his career, but still had one big game left.

At age 34, Gervin scored 35 of his game-high 45 points in a 124-116 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 28. Bulls coach Stan Albeck even took Quintin Dailey out of the rotation because Gervin was playing so well.

“I felt like he was at his best,” Bulls coach Stan Albeck said after the game. “When he’s at his best, you can keep up with him. When we have a bad night, there are moments when he can really get going. I didn’t want to bring ‘Q’ in unprepared. It was a difficult situation for ‘Q’ to come off the bench without ever having played. He wasn’t even warmed up.”

The clip above includes commentary from Jordan and Gervin on the performance. I guess Gervin was just showing Jordan how things used to be.
