Experienced actor George Clooney had no fun during filming Holy Three KingsHe recalled the friction that occurred on the set with David O. Russell, and that is not something Clooney wants to tolerate any longer in his film roles.
According to GQ, Clooney and Wolves Co-star Brad Pitt spoke in a joint interview when Holy Three Kings was discussed. Clooney, for his part, remembers that Russell was “unhappy” on set and claims that the director’s behavior made filming unpleasant for everyone. Clooney believes that Holy Three Kings turned out great, but no matter how proud he is of the quality of the film, he says he just couldn’t spend months of the year working with a director like Russell again.

Clooney’s friction with Russell is not a new revelation, as the actor has previously spoken out about his problems with the director. In 2000, Clooney told Playboy that things got physical when he intervened when Russell allegedly attacked an extra. Clooney said of the filming, “It was really, bar none, the worst experience of my life.” In a 2005 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clooney said that Russell was “a nutcase and difficult to talk to.”

Published in 1999, Holy Three Kings was written and directed by Russell. Clooney was one of four main actors alongside Mark Wahlberg, Ice Cube and Spike Jonze. The four played American soldiers on a gold heist during the uprisings in Iraq after the end of the First Gulf War. Also starring in the film are Nora Dunn, Jamie Kennedy, Cliff Curtis, Judy Greer and Holt McCallany.
Holy Three Kings topped the box office at $107 million on a $48 million budget. As Clooney hinted, the film was highly praised and has a retrospective rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of Clooney’s highest-reviewed films, but fans should of course not expect a reunion film with Russell anytime soon.
