Further showers and thunderstorms are possible until Tuesday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Monday and Tuesday are First Alert Weather Days. We call these First Alert Weather Days to alert you to weather events that could impact your day.

Flood warning Sunday evening

A flood warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for Mesa County, western Montrose County, Grand Mesa including northern Delta County, Garfield County, Pitkin County, Eagle County, Rio Blanco County, Moffat County, northern Ouray County, and San Miguel County. This includes Grand Junction and all of the Grand Valley, Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre Plateau, Glade Park, Nucla, Naturita, Paradox Valley, Lower Dolores River Valley, Colorado River Valley, Aspen, Eagle, Vail, DeBeque, Rangely, Craig, Meeker, Ouray, Ridgway, and northwest Colorado. A flood warning means weather conditions are favorable for flooding and flash flooding.

Two more stormy days

We have two more days of showers and thunderstorms ahead of us. They will be scattered throughout Western Colorado on Monday and Tuesday. The scattered nature of the storms will leave some areas dry, especially on Monday. We should see more rain on Tuesday, when our scattered showers and thunderstorms will be more numerous and widespread.

Heavy storms tonight

Between 6 p.m. and midnight, showers and thunderstorms will move west to east from eastern Utah to western Colorado. A few severe storms can quickly bring 0.25 to 0.33 inches of rain. Locally higher amounts of up to 0.50 inches of rain are possible. Other areas will generally get 0.10 to 0.25 inches of rain or less. After midnight, most of western Colorado will be dry. It will be cloudy with a few showers.

More storms Monday and Tuesday

On Monday it will be mostly cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across the region, but will mainly remain in the mountains during the day. In the evening we will all be free again. Monday could be drier overall, followed by a significant increase in showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday.

Drying after Tuesday

An upper-level low pressure system will pass through us overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. It will push our monsoon moisture eastward and make room for a ridge of high pressure to develop from the south into Colorado. This will mark the beginning of a drying and warming trend that will continue through Friday. Another disturbance will arrive on Saturday and could bring another increase in showers and thunderstorms.

Our next 24 hours

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be locally severe and produce frequent lightning between the clouds and the ground. Temperatures will cool from 27 to 30 degrees at 6 p.m. to 25 to 28 degrees by 8 p.m. and then to 22 to 25 degrees by 10 p.m. Dry areas could be 5 to 10 degrees warmer. The rest of the night will be mostly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may be severe. Thunderstorms may produce frequent lightning between the clouds and the ground. Don’t expect rain all night. There will be some dry spells and some areas could remain dry. Morning lows will be 19 degrees around Grand Junction, 15 degrees around Montrose, 16 degrees around Delta, 14 degrees around Cortez and 19 degrees around Moab. Monday will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. During the day the storms may stay in the mountains, but in the evening after dark they will clear again. Here too, it will not rain everywhere. The high temperatures will be 32 degrees around Grand Junction, 28 degrees around Montrose, 31 degrees around Delta, 29 degrees around Cortez and 31 degrees around Moab.
