There is perhaps no player more closely associated with the last of the Giants’ third World Series titles in their dynastic era than Madison Bumgarner, the pitching staff’s tenacious stud who started six games this October, pitched two complete shutouts and came out of the bullpen to get the final three outs of Game 7.

The 10-year reunion held at Oracle Park on Saturday would have felt empty without him.

But the elusive Bumgarner will be there, the Giants announced Friday, along with a guest list of 36 other players, coaches and front office members from the 2014 championship team. Notable absentees include Bruce Bochy and Pablo Sandoval, who are still active in the game, and Tim Lincecum, who has made himself even less of a priority in retirement than Bumgarner.

Although Bumgarner has not officially announced his retirement, he has not thrown a professional pitch since being released by the Arizona Diamondbacks last April in the fourth year of his $85 million contract he signed before the 2020 season. Bumgarner seems content to retire to his ranch in North Carolina and has largely retreated from the public eye since his release.

Lincecum made a rare appearance at Oracle Park at Bochy’s retirement ceremony before the final game of the 2019 season, but did not make it to the team’s 10-year reunion in 2012 and apparently will not make it this time, either.

Bochy hasn’t retired, of course. This week he had other commitments to celebrate his recent World Series title, visiting the White House with his 2023 champion Texas Rangers. And Sandoval is playing for the Atlantic League’s Staten Island FerryHawks after a brief appearance in spring training and shows no signs of slowing down.

Fans are asked to be in their seats for the start of the celebrations at 12pm on Saturday.
