Full list of active construction, closures

The Michigan Department of Transportation is lifting lane restrictions to make travel easier for motorists this Labor Day weekend.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, August 30, and continuing through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, lane restrictions will be lifted on 96 of Michigan’s 161 road construction projects. However, certain traffic configurations, such as temporary detours or shoulder closures, will remain in place.

The Mackinac Bridge will be closed to public traffic on Labor Day from 6:30 a.m. to noon for the annual bridge walk. Traffic on southbound I-75 and US-2 will be stopped at exit 344 on the north side of the bridge; traffic on northbound I-75 will be stopped at exit 337 on the south end.

Here is a list of construction sites that will remain active or have lane restrictions in place over Labor Day weekend:

Macomb County

  • Clinton River Road is closed under M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue).

  • M-53 northbound is closed from 18 1/2 Mile Road to M-69 (Hall Road).

Oakland County

  • On I-75, two lanes are open in each direction between M-15 and the Oakland-Genesee county line.

  • The eastbound I-75 Business Loop (Square Lake Road) is closed and detoured from M-1 (Woodward Avenue) to I-75.

  • On I-96, two lanes are open in each direction between I-275 and Kent Lake Road.

  • On I-696, two lanes are open in each direction between I-275 and Lahser Road.

Wayne County

  • The westbound John R. Street ramp to I-94 is closed.

  • The Northville and Schoolcraft bridges over M-14 are closed.

  • Lanes are closed in both directions on M-39 (Southfield Freeway) between I-94 and M-153 (Ford Road).

  • On M-53 (Van Dyke Avenue) northbound, one lane is open at 7 Mile Road.

  • On M-85 (Fort Street), one lane is open in each direction on Outer Drive.

  • On M-85 (Fort Street), one lane is open in each direction between 14th Street and West Grand Boulevard.

  • M-102 (8 Mile Road) westbound has two lanes from Coolidge Road to Greenfield Highway.

  • On US-24 (Telegraph Road), two lanes are open in each direction at M-102 (8 Mile Road), but all ramps at the intersection are closed.

  • On northbound US-24 (Telegraph Road), one lane is open at Eureka Road. The I-75 northbound ramp to northbound US-24 is closed.

Central Michigan and Thumb

  • On I-475, Genesee County, one southbound lane is open from Davison Road to Carpenter Road. Northbound I-475 remains closed and detoured.

  • On M-20 in Isabella County, one lane is open in each direction from US-127 to Mission Street.

  • M-24 in Tuscola County is closed from M-46 to Frank Street and is being rerouted via M-46, Chambers Road, M-81 and old M-24 (Frank Street).

  • M-30, Gladwin County, is closed over the Tobacco River. Traffic is being diverted via Curtis Road, M-18 and Dale Road back to M-30. Truck traffic is being diverted via US-10, M-18 and M-61 back to M-30.

  • The following restrictions apply at the M-46/M-19 intersection in Sandusky, Sanilac County:

    • M-46 is closed between Dawson Street and M-19. Detour: Dawson Street, Argyle Street and Jackson Street.

    • M-19 northbound is closed from Miller Road to M-46. Detour: Miller Road, Campbell Road and M-46.

  • M-54, Genesee County, is closed at the intersection of M-54 (Dort Highway) and Court Street. Northbound M-54 traffic is being detoured via Lapeer Road, Center Road and Robert T. Longway Boulevard back to M-54. Southbound traffic is being detoured via Robert T. Longway Boulevard, Center Road and Lapeer Road back to M-54.

  • M-142 in Bad Axe, Huron County, is closed from M-53 and M-19. Traffic is being detoured via M-53, Learman Road and Carpenter Road.

  • On US-10, Bay County, one lane is open in each direction on Mackinaw Road west of Bay City. The Mackinaw Road bridge and ramps remain closed.

Southern Michigan

  • I-69 Business Loop (Cochran Road), Eaton County, is closed at the Battle Creek River.

  • On I-75, Monroe County, one lane is closed in each direction and traffic is being detoured between Erie and Otter Creek Road. The southbound on- and off-ramps to Otter Creek Road are closed and being detoured.

  • The I-75 Connector (Summit Street) in Erie Township, Monroe County, has one alternating-traffic lane in each direction between Substation Road and East Temperance Road.

  • The following restrictions apply to I-94, Jackson County:

    • All entrances and exits on Dearing Road are closed. Dearing Road is closed at I-94 and is being detoured.

    • The ramp from I-94 eastbound to M-60 west/southbound is closed and detoured.

  • On I-96 in Eaton and Ingham counties, traffic will be shifted between Canal Road and Washington Road with the following restrictions:

    • The ramp from northbound Lansing Road to eastbound I-96 is closed.

    • On M-99, one lane is closed in each direction at I-96.

    • Washington Road is closed at I-96.

    • The Billwood Highway is closed at I-96.

  • On I-96 Business Loop (Cedar Street), Ingham County, one lane is closed in each direction between Northrup Street and Miller Road.

  • There is a traffic shift and shoulder closure at the Ann Arbor Railroad on US-12 in Washtenaw County.

  • On US-23 in Livingston County, the northbound exits to M-36 westbound and 9 Mile Road eastbound are closed.

  • US-127/I-496, Ingham County, will experience lane closures between Holt Road and M-43 and the following restrictions:

    • The ramps to northbound US-127/I-496 are closed and detours are being made at Dunckel Road, Trowbridge Road, westbound I-496 and Kalamazoo Street.

    • The Kalamazoo Street and Trowbridge Road ramps to southbound US-127/I-496 are closed.

    • The westbound Trowbridge Road ramps to I-496 and northbound and southbound US-127 are closed.

Southwest Michigan

  • KL Avenue in Kalamazoo County is closed and detoured via US-131.

  • I-69, Calhoun County, is reduced to one lane in each direction at old US-27. Old US-27 is closed above I-69 and is being rerouted.

  • I-94 in Stevensville, Berrien County, has two lanes in each direction. Exit 23 on I-94 westbound is closed and detoured.

  • I-94, Calhoun County, has two lanes in each direction between Helmer Road and 17 1/2 Mile Road.

  • On I-196 in Van Buren County, traffic will be shifted from Hagar Shore Road to County Road 378, with one lane open in each direction.

  • M-40 in Lawton, Van Buren County, is closed and detoured between 72nd Avenue and White Oak Road.

  • On M-51, Berrien County, one lane is open in each direction from Chestnut Street to Main Street.

  • M-66, Calhoun County, is closed and detoured between 3 1/2 Mile Road and Q Drive South.

  • M-139 in Berrien County is closed between Scottdale Road and John Beers Road and is being detoured.

  • On US-12, Berrien County, one lane is open in each direction between M-60 and Bond Street.

  • On US-131, Kalamazoo County, one southbound lane is open between Shaver Road and XY Avenue. The northbound lanes are closed due to a posted detour.

West Michigan

  • Segwun Avenue in Lowell Township, Kent County, is closed above I-96. Traffic detours are in effect on I-96.

  • I-96, Ionia County, is experiencing traffic delays in both directions between Bliss Road and Sunfield Highway west of Portland. Jordan Lake Road is closed above I-96, but all ramps are open.

  • On I-96 in Kent County, the eastbound and westbound ramps to M-6 are closed. The ramp from eastbound M-6 to westbound I-96 is also closed.

  • I-196 Business Route (BR) westbound, Ottawa County, is closed between Holland and Zeeland. Follow posted detour. 112th Avenue, Van Hill Drive and Paw Paw Drive are closed at I-196 BR.

  • M-43 (E. Carlton Center Road), Barry County, is closed over the Coldwater River between Barber and Usborne Roads. Traffic is being diverted via M-37, M-79 and M-66.

  • M-91 (Greenville Road), Montcalm County, is closed between Kendaville Road and M-46 (Howard City Edmore Road) with a posted detour.

  • On northbound US-131 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, the ramp to I-96 and M-37 (Alpine Avenue) is closed. Traffic is being diverted via W. River Drive and southbound US-131 to I-96 and M-37. Northbound US-131 also has lanes closed from Ann Street to I-96. The M-37 (Alpine Avenue) ramp to eastbound I-96 is closed.

  • US-131 in Kent County will experience lane closures and traffic shifts from 68th Street to 108th Street.

Northern Lower Peninsula

  • On I-75 in Cheboygan County, southbound traffic is being diverted to the northbound lanes using a movable concrete barrier.

  • On the I-75 Business Loop in Gaylord, Otsego County, one lane is open in each direction with traffic shifting.

  • On M-37 in Grand Traverse County, one lane of traffic shift is open in each direction on the bridge over the Michigan Northern Railroad south of Chums Corner.

  • The M-55/I-75 Business Loop in West Branch, Ogemaw County, is closed between Fairview Road and Second Street. Detour via city streets.

  • On M-115, Wexford County, one lane of traffic shift is open under US-131 in each direction.

  • The US 31 bascule bridge in Manistee, Manistee County, has one lane open in each direction.

  • On US-31/M-72 in Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, one lane is open in each direction between Front Street and Division Street.

Upper Peninsula

  • A northbound lane across the Carp River is open on I-75 in Mackinac County.

  • On I-75, Mackinac County, one lane is open in each direction at M-134.

  • On M-28 near Trout Creek, Ontonagon County, one lane is open over Rolston Creek with temporary traffic signals in alternating directions.

  • M-48 south of Rudyard, Chippewa County, is closed between Centerline Road and Hantz Road with a posted detour.

  • One lane of detoured traffic is open in each direction on M-95 (Carpenter Avenue) in Kingsford, Dickinson County.

  • US-41/M-28 in Ishpeming, Marquette County, has one lane open in each direction with a traffic detour on Lakeshore Drive. Signed detours for side streets.
