After ending his acclaimed seven-season role as Dr. Shaun Murphy in ABC’s medical drama, The good doctor, Freddie Highmore has found another captivating role in which he can disappear. He will star alongside Keeley Hawesknown for her roles in hit series such as Bodyguard And Orphan Black: Echoesin a thrilling international spy thriller for Prime Video entitled The Assassin.

The Assassin tells the story of a former assassin named Julie, played by Hawes, who is living on a remote Greek island when she is visited by her estranged son Edward, played by Highmore. He struggles with his identity and is forced to team up with his mother when a hitman from Julie’s past resurfaces and threatens to destroy their relationship completely. The official plot of the six-part series is:

“On a remote Greek island, retired assassin Julie (Hawes) has a somewhat awkward reunion with her estranged son Edward (Highmore), who is visiting from England. Edward faces questions about new information about his paternity and tries to find the right time to talk to his frustratingly distant mother. But when the moment finally arrives, things take a deadly turn when Julie’s dangerous past catches up with them and they are forced to leave the island and flee together.”

The team behind the upcoming Prime Video series

The series was created by Harry and Jack Williams, who previously worked on British television shows such as Hotel Babylon, Wild at heartAnd Call the midwife. They even developed and produced the highly acclaimed and fan-favorite Phoebe Waller-Bridge series, Flea bagHer production company Two Brothers Pictures will produce The Assassin in collaboration with ZDF as German co-production partner, All3Media International and Stan in Australia. Hawes and Highmore will also take on leadership roles behind the scenes.

The supporting cast for The Assassinfeatures a talented ensemble cast, including Gina Gershon, known for her roles in Riverdale And New AmsterdamShalom Brune-Franklin, who recently appeared in the Netflix series Baby reindeerJack Davenport, known for The morning show, And pirates of the Caribbeanand Alan Dale, who received recognition for many roles, from dynasty And Lost until 24. Gerald Kyd (The Swarm)Devon Terrell (Absolutely fine)Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones) and David Dencik (The Ipcress File) will also play.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hannah Blyth, TV boss at Prime Video UK, also expressed her confidence in the project and explained how excited she was from day one when “Harry and Jack shared their vision for The Assassin ”, knowing that the script “are perfectly received by (their) audience.” She added:

“The Assassin promises to be a gripping thriller centered on a dynamic mother-son relationship, full of unexpected twists and turns that will keep our audiences hooked from start to finish. We can’t wait for our customers to immerse themselves in this gripping new series.”
