American video game developer Epic Games, known for titles such as Fortnite and Fall Guys, has announced that its Epic Games Store is now available on iOS in the European Union (EU) and on Android worldwide. With the launch of its own app store, Epic Games is bringing video games such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe and Fall Guys to mobile platforms.
Following regulatory changes brought about by the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the EU, Apple was required to open up its iOS platform to allow sideloading of third-party apps and app stores in addition to its own app store on iPhones. In response, Epic Games announced the launch of its own app marketplace, the Epic Games Store, for iOS and Android, offering access to exclusive video games from the developer.
In a company press release, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said: “The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition. We are grateful to the European Commission for allowing us to open the Epic Games Store and enable us to offer our games to iOS users in the European Union. Now European iOS users and all Android users can access our store and games as they have always been able to on open platforms like PC and Mac.”
While the iOS version of the Epic Games Store is limited to the EU, the Android version is available worldwide, including India. Here’s how to install the new Epic Games Store on Android devices in India:
Epic Games Store on Android: How to install it
- Open the web browser on your Android device and visit the “epic.download” website.
- Tap the “Install on Android” button.
- Tap the Download Anyway button when the pop-up message appears.
- Tap the downloaded file in the Downloads section of your browser.
- If a pop-up message asks if you want to allow apps to be installed from this source, tap the Settings button.
- Turn on the “Allow from this source” switch and tap “Install”.
- If you have already enabled the option, when you tap the downloaded file, a pop-up message will appear asking if you want to install the app. Tap Install.
- Open the app and select the game you want to install.
- When you tap the Install button, you will see the same pop-up message asking you to allow the source to install apps.
- In the pop-up message, go to Settings and enable the “Allow from this source” switch.
- Confirm the installation and open the game.
